Therapy that helps you work with your brain.

At some point in every person’s life there is a moment where even the idea of getting help can feel overwhelming. When exhaustion and responsibility combine and your usual ways of coping aren’t working anymore every challenge can feel impossible.

As a therapist, my first priority is helping you find ways to reduce overall distress. I believe that functionality is the foundation to building long-term stability. Building practical skills based around the way your brain works helps create a sustainable, strengths-based foundation for growth.

Individual Therapy

Managing daily life can often mean ignoring messages your brain and body are sending. When getting through the day is a struggle, any bump can be devastating. Individual therapy is time and space for you pause and get curious about what might make your everyday functioning a little bit easier.

I often work with people who are navigating:

  • ADHD/ Autism/ Neurodivergence

  • Perinatal mental health

  • Parenting

  • Life transitions

Research and understanding of neurodivergence in general, and ADHD and Autism specifically, grown exponentially in the last decade. As knowledge increases, so do the number of adults being diagnosed. My work with neurodivergent clients focuses on both processing the grief and anger that can come with diagnosis, and the practical application of tools and information that can help decrease distress resulting from trying to contort your brain to fit a neurotypical world.

The perinatal period, from family planning through early parenthood, is a stage of immense change in identity, relationships, and functionality. Birthing parents and non-birthing parents alike are jumping into the deep end of change from the high dive. This time can be joyful and exhilarating, as well as scary, traumatic, and so hard. Supporting people in this moment is a passion of mine and why I became perinatal mental health certified (PMH-C) therapist. Thinking about, becoming, and being a parent is complex and lifelong. I want to help you show up for yourself and your family as the person you want to be.

Abbie Spear LICSW

Born and raised in Seattle, I have a deep love of all things green and a healthy skepticism of weather above 80 degrees. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the state of Washington (LW61084772). I earned my master’s degree from Smith College School for Social Work in 2016. I have worked in community mental health and private practice, with both children and adults.

As a therapist I draw from an eclectic range of theory and research to provide the support that works best for you. In session I prioritize helping you feel better by reconnecting with your brain and body. My style is welcoming, curious, and informal. We will start where you are at and go from there.

Outside of session I enjoy spending time with my family, though I would love to spend less time driving my kids around and more time snuggling. I am often found listening to audiobooks while engaging in my hyperfocus craft of the moment. I love learning new fun facts and silly jokes.
